The fossil fuel market is in decline. Since 2015, renewable energy has been a better market than fossil fuels. Renewable energy also has a much more stable cost and is a local resource, which improves the energy interdependency of all countries.

Nevertheless, we must now prepare ourselves for energy consumption in an intelligent and controlled way to avoid serious risks of supply disruption, including that of the blackout announced by the federal councillor, Guy Parmelin.

By targeting energy consumption as a new target criteria for industrial system improvement, we opened up a new El Dorado with potential savings of up to 80%, by implementing rules or good practices.

A reminder of the science:

1kWh is a unit of energy. 1 litre of petrol contains approximately 10kWh of energy. Therefore, filling a 50L car equates to 500 kWh. The average Swiss household consumes 300 kWh of electricity/ year, excluding hot water and heating.

Energy Performance Improvement (EPI) can affect:

  • On the time axis, for example not leaving the unused system switched on
  • On the power axis, such as using motors with the best class efficiency to provide the same results

The most interesting source of energy savings is the reduction in standby consumption. Indeed, the profit is immediate and this has no impact to the use of the system.
